National Gallery of Art<\/a><\/h3>\n

The National Gallery of Art\u2019s neoclassical West Building is home to one of the world\u2019s best collections of paintings, sculpture, and more, dating from the 13th to the 20th century. The I.M. Pei\u2013designed East Building opened in 1978 and houses mostly modern and contemporary art on four levels.<\/p>\n

The best way to enter the West Building is through the Mall entrance on Madison Drive, which leads into the building\u2019s impressive central rotunda. Take a right and you\u2019ll find the 19th-century French galleries, which are home to works by Monet, Renoir, -C\u00e9zanne, and others. On the west side of the building, don\u2019t miss \u201cGinevra de\u2019 Benci,\u201d the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the Americas\u2014which features a special surprise on its back.<\/p>\n

An underground tunnel on the concourse level leads past the bookstore to a larger museum store and dining area underneath the East Building (a light sculpture by Leo Villareal, \u201cMultiverse,\u201d adorns the passageway).\u00a0As of late September 2016, the East Building galleries will be reopened after three years of extensive renovations.<\/p>\n
