Technology Will Make You Depressed If You Let It, So Don’t

There is a lot of conversation going on right now on whether technology is actually improving the quality of our lives or just making us more depressed. With all of the headlines on cyber bullying and the feeling of loneliness that social media can create, it isn’t surprising that this is a popular topic.

But for those who think technology is making us lonely and depressed I would say: you’re using it wrong. Most of the times technology fails people because use it as a replacement for interactions in the physical world. If you believe technology can replace your life then it is setup to fail. If you use technology as a tool to increase your efficiency so that you have more time to do the things you love in the physical world then you will have a far different experience – one that you will love.

And that is what we tried to build with City Walker. We do not judge ourselves by how long people linger on our app. We don’t want people wasting hours each day scrolling through our content. We want to solve a problem – quickly and easily – so you can get back to living your life.

In our minds some of life’s best moments happen in restaurants, bars, movie theaters and boutiques. These are places that we spend time with our friends and family, breaking bread and swapping stories. We don’t want to eat into any of that time. We don’t want to replace that time. We want to help you find the best places for you to enjoy these moments and then we want to get the hell out of the way.

I wish more tech companies felt the same way. If they did, I don’t think we’d be having any debates on whether technology is making our lives better. It clearly would be and we’d all benefit from that. The cyber world is cool. But there is a great big, physical world out there that is just waiting for you to explore it. Go try it. If you get lost and need a little help, turn to City Walker. But once we guide you in the right direction, go back to enjoying the journey!
