The history of sports can be traced back to ancient Sumer and is depicted in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Groups of town people sitting around watching others compete is a long standing tradition and now-a-days having a special place to go and watch games on TV with friends is important in modern culture. We have lined up some of the best sports bars in all of Washington DC.
The Big Stick
Just steps away from the Navy Yard Metro, this woodsy sports bar has a great selection of beers on tap. This is a great spot for pre-game beers and appetizers with Happy Hour specials. There are also weekly specials like $0.50 wings on Monday nights, and discounted fried pickles on Fried Fridays.
Ventnor Sports Cafe
Rave worthy service and delicious food awaits all customers. For the sports enthusiasts will find several TVs playing different games all able to be adjusted for your view and the staff with accomodate any game you are looking to watch. The portions of food are large enough to share with small groups and the prices are reasonable. The free, extra salty popcorn feels like a cheap trick to keep you ordering drinks, but the Happy Hour prices are hard to beat.
Nellie’s Sports Bar
Daily food and drink specials complement the fun atmosphere and events. Weekly drag events like bingo and karaoke to participate in on the inside of the bar, and a rooftop bar for relaxing. With plenty of bar both inside and out help to keep the service quick.
The Prospect
This place is perfect for a fall brunch with bottomless apple cider mimosas! The food and service are great, the Crab Dip and Hog Wings are a must. Thursday night drink specials starting at $2.50 pair great with any game you want to watch. The options for vegetarians and vegans are limited but other than that this place is always a good time.
Biergarten Haus
This Bavarian style bar with a heated beer garden is the perfect place to sit outside and watch spots with German pub grub. There is a wide selection of German beers on tap, and the pretzel rolls with beer cheese make a great snack. The Garden and rooftop are both very spacious with lots of seating. During certain games and local events it can get crowded, but still has a very fun atmosphere.
Sports bars are a common place where fathers bring their sons to share their favorite sports and teach them the rules. They are where memories are made. Every man has their favorite memory about watching “The Big Game,” and learning how to play pool. City Walker is looking for those memories to share with other fathers.
Now, users can include the memories of places they went to even if they are far away. Just because you have moved doesn’t make that place you went to when you were a fresh-faced boy any less special. Share those memories with us!
