Best Cheesesteak in Philadelphia According to the Locals

Hey Walkers! At the beginning of May we released custom search categories for Philadelphia as well as New York, Baltimore and Washington DC. Naturally the first one we had to introduce for Philadelphia was cheesesteaks. The custom category cheesesteak has only been out for a few weeks and we’ve already received an incredible amount of responses from local Philadelphians. Growing up in the Philly area, I naturally have strong opinions about where you can find the best cheesesteak. But the beauty of City Walker is my single opinion doesn’t matter it’s the conglomeration of multiple opinions that truly gives you an objective point of view.

The City Walker platform drives search results based on locals’ Points of View, the app users current location, and what’s with in walking distance; the perfect way to get to the bottom of the age old question.

Where can I get the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia?

Here’s where we stand today

Best Philly Shirts

Woodrow’s Sandwich Shop

Woodrow’s Sandwich Shop, the dream project of well-seasoned chef Kevin Kramer, who has taken the storefront last occupied by Hot Diggity at 630 South St. (It’s also 2½ blocks from Jim’s Steaks and Ishkabibble’s.)

Mind-blowing Sandwiches

What locals are saying on City Walker:
One of the best cheesesteak experiences you can have in Philadelphia

John’s roast pork

John Roast Port Cheesesteak

John’s Roast Pork has long been a favorite of South Philadelphia dock workers and contractors, but only recently has John’s gained mainstream recognition as one of the best purveyors of cheesesteaks in the City of Philadelphia.

What locals are saying on City Walker:
An institution and taste of real Philly… Don’t be fooled by the appearance, one of the best hoagies you’ll have in the city. Be prepared to wait in line.

14 Snyder Ave,
Philadelphia, PA 19148

Jims on south street

It’s best to know your P’s and Q’s before visiting this South Street cheesesteaker, where the grillmen take their choice top round very seriously. At Jim’s, all steaks come with onions (that’s just how they come, simple as that); subsequent “extras” range from “Whiz” and provolone to roasted bell peppers and mushrooms.

What locals are saying on City Walker:

Forget Pat’s and Geno’s. This is THE best Philly cheesesteak… As a Philly native, my personal favorite cheesesteak in the city. Is recommend getting it wit/wiz.

400 South St,
Philadelphia, PA 19147

Steve’s prince of steaks

Whenever Pat’s and Geno’s Steaks are mentioned, undoubtedly someone will weigh in with the seemingly erudite argument that they don’t pick a winner between those geographic rivals, but rather they prefer Steve’s Steaks. The Philadelphia cheesesteak joint has been Northeast Philadelphia royalty since opening in the early 1980s.

What locals are saying on City Walker:
In the real battle for Philly steaks, Pat’s and Geno’s lose to Steve’s for me. Killer steaks. Slab of meat instead of chopped up. Great fries too.

7200 Bustleton Ave,
Philadelphia, PA 19149

Campo’s deli

Campo’s Philly favorite cheesesteaks, and hoagies come straight from their legacy, of quality, family, neighborhood, hard work and devotion, and from the one ingredient crucial to their success and ours: Personal service or as we like to call it “love” It has kept our customers coming back since we, the next generation took over in 1975.

Mike Campo grew up in the food and deli business, and learned that the most important thing he can do is to put the customer first. He works hard to give customers that extra special attention you deserve. We pay close attention to the details, and the results are exceptional.

What locals are saying on City Walker:
A great center city cheesesteak spot! Highly recommended their specialty! The Heater.

Philadelphia, PA 19106
